Extending Software as a Service To any device including the iPhone

It’s here - The Citrix Service Provider program AND Receiver for iPhone 1.0. This is the most exciting announcement since I’ve been here at Citrix.  Can you imagine the power of the most successful application delivery technology on the planet coupled with the highest growth mobile device on the planet?  We’ve been working on both at Citrix for a while and now they are both available together.Today Citrix announced the creation of a new licensing approach for service providers.  The Citrix Service Provider program that enables hosting services companies to access our technology in a subscription licensing arrangement to rapidly expand the delivery of applications for Windows based Software as a Service.  Read the rest here http://community.citrix.com/blogs/group/xenapp

SaaS and the Cloud - How to deliver applications, Phase I

I was on a webinar with Goldman Sachs last week and their most technically astute analysts were talking about the future of virtualization in relation to Public and Private Clouds as well as the ability to deliver next generation applications using Web 2.0 technology.  I posed the question to them, “What about the tens of thousands of applications that have been written in Windows that either can’t or won’t make the transition to ‘webification’” (a cool term I dreamed up at the spur of the moment!).  The answer was predictable but unfortunately had been left out of the entire discussion until I brought it up.  The analyst responded, “Whoever figures out how to get those [Windows] apps into a SaaS model has a huge opportunity in the market today.”  Read th rest at source here http://community.citrix.com/blogs/group/xenapp

Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 Release Candidate is Now Available!!

The Microsoft Application Virtualization team is very excited to announce that our version 4.5 Release Candidate is now available! We’ve been working incredibly hard since the Beta release to bring you the best version of the product to date and we think we’ve achieved that goal! Since the Beta release, we have added several new features, fixed bugs and made sure the product was ready to scale for enterprise deployments. Our TAP customers (selected customers who work closely with us to deploy the product into production prior to its final release) will be expanding their deployments to thousands of production users with this release in order to help us validate the product’s full feature set, as well as performance and scalability.

Get your applications virtualized on Windows 7 Beta with Microsoft App-V

We’ve been listening to customers who want to see us support Windows 7 early so they can move ahead with their application testing in preparation for their enterprise deployments. Today, we are pleased to announce the immediate availability of App-V 4.5 CU1 for the Windows 7 Beta.

As you know, we have a high bar for application compatibility between Windows Vista and Windows 7, so you might be wondering why we need an update of App-V specific to Windows 7. Application virtualization is in a small class of applications that have very deep interactions specific to a Windows release – in App-V’s case it is redirecting the registry, file-system and component calls. So as we update Windows, we will continue to require new versions of App-V.

All subscribers of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) can register to download the update from Microsoft Connect and get ahead on their Windows 7 planning right now.   Through MDOP, our goal is to continuously offer technology and updates to our enterprise customers. When Windows 7 releases, we are committed to supporting the final product within 90 days of general availability. App-V 4.5 CU1 also contains a small number of improvements such as instant access or removal of applications assigned to end users.
